« Financial innovation and FinTech disruption: Big data in regulation »

This lecture will start with the financial innovation in UK particularly in peer-to-peer lending industry focusing on our case study using large granular data. Next, the challenges posed by disruptive changes in Fin-tech will be discussed together with our approach to address that using novel data sets and machine learning algorithms. « Blockchain technologies for algorithmic regulation and compliance »

Blockchain technologies bring about several disruptive features which have the potential to radically change the way regulation is operated presently. Indeed, blockchain technologies can provide access to auditable data which are verified,  time-stamped and immutable, generating a transparent, inter-operable environment where rules can be implemented, enforced and adapted, providing instruments to monitor and quantify the reliability and reputation of users.

Adoption of blockchain technologies  has the potential to be beneficial to both industry and regulators . This convergence of industry and government interests is rather unique and opens great opportunities. To this end, at a time when the financial sector is seriously investing in the development of these technologies, it is essential to develop an adequate research infrastructure to investigate the adaptation of blockchain technologies to regulation and compliance.
